Today's debate: Is it better to read a book or watch a video to learn something new?
SIDE A — Books are better: A book lets you read at your own pace — you can go back and re-read a confusing part. Books build reading skill at the same time as teaching the topic. You can make notes in the margins.
SIDE B — Videos are better: A video shows moving images and sounds, which can explain things that are hard to picture from words alone — for example, how a volcano erupts. Videos keep attention more easily for learners who find reading difficult.
Two arguments: which is stronger?
Argument 1: "Books are better because they are books."
WEAK — just repeats the opinion with no reason.
Argument 2: "Books are better because you control the pace — you can re-read a hard sentence three times until you understand it, which you cannot do as easily when a video is playing."
STRONG — gives a specific reason (pace control) and a real example of why it matters.
