Write a story about a naming ceremony

Prompt PPJ-ENG-02253

🦉 Learn it

A short story has a beginning, a middle and an end. The beginning tells us who, where and when. The middle tells us what happens. The end tells us how it finishes and how people feel.

Write about something you know well, like a naming ceremony. Use your senses: what could you see, hear, smell and taste?

Stories about what happened are usually told in the past tense: the baby cried, everyone clapped, we ate jollof rice.

Check your work step by step: Does it have a beginning, middle and end? Is it in the past tense? Does every sentence start with a capital letter and end with a full stop?

A story plan

Beginning: Last Saturday, my family went to my aunt's house for baby Tolu's naming ceremony.

Middle: The elders prayed for the baby, and Grandpa whispered her names. Everyone clapped and danced.

End: We ate jollof rice and moin-moin, and I went home tired and happy.
